This weekend was a powerful service at Coast Hills. The music was awesome (of course) and the message was penetrating. It was based on the Rich Young Ruler. Here is the scripture verse:
The Rich Young Ruler
17 As
Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees
before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit
eternal life?"
18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"
20 "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy."
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
22 At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
The main point here is when asked by Jesus to give up everything and follow Him, the Rich Young Ruler went away sad because he had great wealth. He wasn't willing to give everything up. The REAL reason he was asking Jesus what he must do to have eternal life was because HE WANTED TO KNOW THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENT.
Are you giving up everything for Jesus or just getting by on the minimum requirement?

Well Justin, I sometimes get lazy and try to get by on the minimum requirement. Eventually I become miserable and empty, thus I get going again. Thank God for grace.
Hey, hope you don't mind, I am using some of the DaVinci Code stuff I got from CHCC in my debunking of "The Code" for my family and friends.
I have been reading the book myself. Despite a few unfair zingers against the church and some unflattering characters, the book was a great read, up until chapter 55 (the book has about a million chapters). Chapter 55 is halfway through the book, which is about 500 pages long.
Until then the big secrets of the developing plot were yet unknown. Don't worry, I won't spoil it for anyone, but, once you hit chapters 55 - 58 the depth of the smear on Christanity is jaw dropping (mixing some truth, half truths, and bold lies).
Christainity is discredited from top to bottom, everything about Christianity is attacked. The author says he is a Christian on his website, but when asked about scholars who attempt to disprove the DaVinci Code, he says "The dialogue is wonderful. These authors and I obviously disagree..." I bet they do. They call this entertainment?

True that! Thank God for GRACE. This past week, Daniel and I tendered our resignation with our sending mission agency…with of course much Godly council and prayer. This has been seriously the most difficult decision! How do you (we) unravel 3 years of working for something? I don’t say that to put it on display, I say this out loud to put a stop to the disgrace and say that it doesn’t have to be a secret, a failure (which is how I feel) rather a praise that God calls us to hold our dreams with open hands not with clutched fists….now the difficult part is to forgive and to let go, move on with out holding a grudge….So what do we do now? With me it is all or nothing, we just want to serve and so whatever is on the horizon, we are searching and waiting for it. It is the waiting that always makes me jittery…Take me to my happy place; mocha frapachino please.

kristiapplesauce, do not lose heart.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Just keep studying the word..
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Psalm 32:8
